Is the U.S. egg donation process complicated?
Many girls who are new to overseas egg donation often have the same question.
In reality, the egg donation process is quite similar worldwide — it mainly involves checking follicle count, ovarian health, and chromosomal condition. These procedures are almost identical to those used in Taiwanese fertility or egg-freezing clinics. Once the medical examinations are completed and the reports are ready, you can apply for reimbursement of your medical expenses from the overseas clinic.
Global Egg DonorGlobal Egg Donor works closely with multiple U.S. fertility centers, helping women who wish to donate eggs in America quickly understand and complete the entire process.
Step 1. Submit Application Documents (Initial Screening)
You might wonder:
“With so many donors from different backgrounds, how do they know who receives my eggs?”
“Will my donated eggs actually be fertilized into embryos?”
To protect the future parental rights of intended parents, egg donation is conducted anonymously. Donors cannot contact or identify the intended parents who receive their eggs. Instead, intended parents make their selection based on your photos, genetic traits, and medical background.
That’s why the information you provide and the photos you submit are extremely important.
The key criteria include:
- Height, blood type, and education level
- Family genetic or medical history
- Personality, talents, and interests
You’ll need to provide 15–20 clear photos showing your facial features from childhood to adulthood (both half-body and full-body shots).
💡 Photos are the most crucial factor in passing the first-round screening successfully.
Note: Photos cannot be heavily edited or Photoshopped — light skin smoothing is acceptable.
If you’re worried that your photos might not look good enough, don’t worry! Global Egg Donor offers professional, natural-style photo sessions for girls planning to donate eggs in the U.S. Outdoor photo shoots are arranged in the Taipei and New Taipei City areas to ensure your pictures meet the required standards while showing your best self.
After submitting your application documents and photos, you will typically receive the initial screening results within about one week.

Step 2. Medical Examination
Since U.S. fertility centers do not have physical clinics in Taiwan, the order and schedule of medical tests are arranged by the doctor based on each donor’s age, menstrual cycle, and prior donation experience.
The doctor will inform the donor of the sequence of required examinations, and each test must be completed and approved before proceeding to the next. Girls in Taiwan can visit a local OB-GYN clinic or certified laboratory for blood tests and other examinations. Afterward, they can submit receipts for reimbursement.
During this second stage of the U.S. egg donation process, if you have any questions or concerns, the Global Egg Donor medical team will provide full guidance and assistance throughout the check-up process.
Note: The medical examination fees and compensation (allowance) will be wire-transferred to the donor’s Taiwan bank account within 10 days after successfully completing the egg donation procedure in the United States.
Order of Medical Examinations:
- Saliva DNA Test (results in 3–4 weeks): NT$2,100
- Blood Test at Certified Lab (results in 3 days): Four hormone panels + AMH — NT$1,000
- Transvaginal Ultrasound at OB-GYN or fertility clinic to check follicles (on day 3 of menstruation): NT$1,600
- Chromosome Blood Test (results in 1 week): NT$5,000–6,000 (can reuse previous valid report)
- Infectious Disease, Drug, Alcohol & Nicotine Screening: NT$5,000–6,000
💡 Total upfront cost: Approximately NT$16,000 for all required medical examinations.
After egg retrieval, the hospital will reimburse the medical exam and airfare costs together with the compensation, via international wire transfer to the donor’s Taiwan bank account.

Step 3. Take Birth
Control Pills for 14 Days and Antibiotics for 3 Days

If the prospective egg donor has had sexual activity during the medical examination period, it is recommended to take a preventive antibiotic—Azithromycin (Zithromax)—for 3 consecutive days to prevent Chlamydia trachomatis infection. After completing the medication, she should wait 12 days to ensure full bacterial clearance before proceeding with the medical tests.
If any positive infection result appears during testing, the clinic will immediately cancel the donation cycle.
Note:
- The antibiotic cost (approximately NT$600) must be paid by the donor and cannot be reimbursed.
- Since many medical test reports have a validity period, the donor must take birth control pills for 14 days within one month before departure to the U.S. for egg donation. This helps stabilize the menstrual cycle and allow the ovaries to rest.
- Birth control pill cost (approximately NT$600) is reimbursable after successful donation.

Step 4. Apply for a U.S. Visa (ESTA)
Once all medical examinations are approved, the donor can apply online for the U.S. ESTA electronic travel authorization, which allows a maximum stay of up to 90 days in the United States.
Application steps:
- Visit the official ESTA website.
- Fill in passport information.
- Provide the U.S. accommodation address during your stay.
- Pay the application fee of USD $21 (credit card payment accepted).
The visa approval is usually issued within 3 days. Donors must print the approval page and present it to U.S. Customs upon entry.
If the donor has never applied for a U.S. visa before, Global Egg Donor will assist her with the online ESTA application process for traveling to the United States for egg donation.

Step 5. Purchase Flight Tickets & Accommodation
Buying your own flight ticket:
Since U.S. Customs will verify that the flight ticket was purchased by the traveler herself, egg donors holding a tourist visa must also show proof of sufficient travel funds to demonstrate that their visit is for tourism — not for employment or compensation.
Therefore, clinics require donors to purchase their flight tickets using their own credit cards. The cost of a round-trip flight to the U.S. typically ranges from NT$50,000 to NT$90,000, depending on the season.
If you don’t have enough funds for the U.S. trip, it’s recommended to request a temporary credit limit increase or adjust your credit card payment date. Banks such as E.Sun Bank and CTBC Bank support online international remittance, allowing your compensation and reimbursement to be directly wired to your Taiwan account after successful egg donation.
Once in the U.S., donors can complete the egg retrieval within one month and receive their nutritional compensation to cover the flight expenses on their credit card. You may reschedule or cancel the trip if needed — the decision is entirely yours.
Accommodation:
The clinic will arrange nearby lodging for convenience during check-ups. Each donor is provided with a private room and can shop for groceries locally or cook meals. Food delivery apps are also available for ordering daily meals and nutritional supplements, making your stay easy and comfortable.
Step 6. Pre-Departure Preparation Before Entering the U.S.
After the ESTA visa approval, the clinic will arrange an interview coaching session to prepare donors for the U.S. Customs interview.
Since donors must answer questions in English and clearly explain their 90-day travel plan and accommodation details to confirm the legality of their visit, Global Egg Donor provides one-on-one online coaching sessions to help donors confidently handle Customs questions and prepare a two-week travel itinerary in advance.
Step 7. Upon Arrival in the United States – Local Arrangements
![]()
To ensure a smooth and safe arrival, once you enter the United States, you can take an Uber to your accommodation and rest for the day. The following morning, you’ll visit the fertility clinic for an ultrasound and hormonal evaluation, followed by an in-person signing of the medical consent forms.
Based on your medical condition, the doctor will prescribe individualized hormone injections to stimulate egg growth. A nurse will demonstrate how to correctly prepare and administer the ovulation stimulation shots, explaining the dosage, timing, and injection technique in detail.
After the instruction, you can take the medication home and self-inject at the designated time each day, following the doctor’s schedule throughout the stimulation process.
Important Reminder!
Because the medication must be kept refrigerated, make sure you administer the injections at home. Exposure to unsuitable temperatures can affect the drug’s potency and slow down follicle development.
Expenses You Need to Pay in Advance (Using U.S. Egg Donation as an Example)
For U.S. egg donation, donors typically need to prepay approximately NT$16,000 for medical examinations.
These include blood tests, ultrasound scans, and genetic or infectious disease screenings. The full amount will be reimbursed after successful egg retrieval.
However, donating eggs overseas isn’t limited to the U.S.—many Taiwanese donors also choose Thailand (Bangkok) for egg donation due to its excellent medical facilities and donor benefits.
Thailand Egg Donation – Benefits & Highlights
- No need to prepay airfare (the agency covers the ticket).
- Airport pick-up and transportation are included.
- Accommodation provided, with the option to stay in a large suite and even bring a companion.
- The only difference is that matching time in Thailand is slightly longer than in the U.S., since there are fewer intended parents seeking donors.
For girls without a tight schedule, Bangkok egg donation can be a comfortable and rewarding alternative to the U.S. program.
